Aciveiro

Aciveiro - Abbaye This singular hotel occupies an ancient monastery, a real gem of Romantic architecture, built in 1135 under the tutelage of the king Alfonso VII, and incorporated to the Cistercian Order around 1170. The conscientious restoration of the building respected faithfully the structure of the monastic enclosure which, under the Cistercian architectonical style, distributes around the cloister the ancient dependencies: kitchen, refectory, scriptorium, chapter house, stables and monk cells. In the past austere rooms, they become nowadays cozy spaces, full of warm and charm. The monastery functioned like that until the XIX century. Witness of the presence of the monks, you can see an interesting collection of liturgical clothes in the cloister, some of the chasubles with more of two centuries old. The ideal situation of the monastery, very near of the environmental protection area of Sierra del Candán, provide to the visitant a privileged environment to enjoy the nature and the outdoor activities. Two Small Route Paths have their origin in the Monasterio de Aciveiro: PRG-113 Route of the Bridges of the Río Lérez; and PRG-100 Aciveiro-Candán (circular).
