The past Cistercian Monastery of Buch is located in the Muldental Valley. In 1192, 12 monks from the Sittichenbach Monastery near Eisleben moved into the Buch Monastery. A certificate, written by the Emperor Heinrich VI. in 1192, confirms theirs propertys. It had a national importance by its economic and cultural influence. During its prime time in the 15th century, 52 villages and the town of Belgern near Torgau was assigned to Buch Monastery. Buch Monastery was closed in 1526 caused by the reformation. Since this time the estate was used by different owners and tenants for agricultu al purposes. Still today, architectural remains remember the monastic living as the Necessarium (lat., a monastic lavatory) in the chapter house and parts of the Infirmary (hospital) and there the chapel in particular. Since 2000, the estate is owned by the Förderverein Kloster Buch e.V.. Aim of the association is the establishment of a cultural-historical centre. Its focal point is the preservation of traditions and merits of the Cistercians, the assessment of their historical achievements in agricultural development and to transfer it to future generations by using of that knowledge. After a huge flood in 2002 the yards and the interior had been renovated. The combination of outer space and gardens as well as the historical buildings and walling of the past Cistercian monastery leaves a unique impression to its visitors during different events and guided tours.

Eingebettet in das sächsische Muldental liegt das ehemalige Zisterzienserkloster Buch. 1192 zogen zwölf Mönche aus dem Kloster Sittichenbach bei Eisleben ins Kloster Buch ein. Eine Urkunde aus dem Jahr 1192 bestätigt die Besitzungen durch Kaiser Heinrich VI. Mit ihrem wirtschaftlichen und kulturellen Einfluss hatte die Niederlassung überregionale Bedeutung. Zur Blütezeit in der 1. Hälfte des 15. Jahrhunderts waren dem Kloster 52 Dörfer und die Stadt Belgern bei Torgau zugeordnet. Im Zuge der Reformation wurde Kloster Buch ab 1526 aufgelöst. Danach und bis in die Mitte der 1990er Jahre wurde das Gelände für landwirtschaftliche Zwecke genutzt. Heute erinnern architektonische Reste an das Klosterleben, wie das Necessarium (die Mönchstoilette) im Kapitelhaus und Teile der Infirmerie (Krankenhaus) und dort vor allem die Kapelle. Seit dem Jahr 2000 ist die Klosteranlage im Besitz des Fördervereins Kloster Buch e. V. Ziel des Vereins ist die Schaffung eines kulturhistorischen Zentrums. Es gilt, Traditionen und Verdienste der Zisterzienser zu wahren, die Leistungen der traditionellen landwirtschaftlichen Entwicklung wertzuschätzen und diese Erkenntnisse der nächsten Generation zu übermitteln. Die nach der Flut 2002 neu angelegten Außenanlagen und renovierten Gebäude bieten Raum für Veranstaltungen und Führungen. Sehenswert sind die neu angelegten Gärten.
