Cedynia

Cedynia - Abbaye Cedynia - Zachodniopomorskie province, commune Cedynia; the Archdiocese of Szczecin and Kamien. The Abbey of Cistercian Sisters from 1266 (originally from 1248 – localised in Trzcinsko Zdrój) till its secularisation in 1555. The Abbey was founded by the Ordinary of Kamien (around 1248) to help to protect the farmlands in the area from an expansion of the Margraves of Brandenburg. In 1266 the margraves, who finally conquered the neighbourhood, moved the Cistercian Sisters from Trzcinsko to Cedynia. Since 1555 the buildings of the convent in Cedynia had been used for as an educational centre for noble girls. The only preserved part of the church and the convent, built on the top of the hill overlooking the town, is the west wing of the cloister. Rebuilt, it serves nowadays as a hotel (a private possession).
