The association pays close attention to the current situation of abbeys and their dependencies. There is no shortage of topics to discuss. To meet this need, the Charter organises study days every two years. The first session was held at Lérins Abbey in the spring of 2023.
In the same spirit, the association takes advantage of large gatherings such as General Assemblies or visits to abbeys to listen to speakers. The topics can be both historical and contemporary.
The Study Days usually take place over two days, which is the time needed to listen to the speakers and engage in dialogue with them. These sessions are open to member abbeys, subject to a contribution towards costs. Accommodation and meals are provided on site.
Eight to ten lectures (in French) are on the agenda. They are given by researchers, experts or institutional or field actors, all recognised for their high level of expertise in the subject they address.
It should be noted that these lectures are all the more valuable and enriching as they provide researchers with a unique opportunity to present the results and reflections of their ongoing research. In other words, these are not academic presentations, but lively discussions. This is one of the facets of these sessions.
Another, equally enriching facet is the dialogue that naturally ensues: dialogue with the speakers, of course, but also dialogue between the participants; dialogue with the monks, but also dialogue with the association's leaders who are present.
Needless to say, these exchanges also provide an opportunity to gather opinions and suggestions for improving future sessions.
These Days are also an opportunity for an in-depth visit to the host abbey and its surroundings.
