Krautwiller

Krautwiller - Abbaye The Moulin des Moins known as ?Moenchméhlé? was founded by Cistercian monks in the XIIIth century on the banks of the river Zorn, in the village of Krautwiller near Strasbourg, in the heart of the Alsacian countryside. After the French Revolution, it was purchased by the Diemer family, adding to the family's farm. In 1970, Miss Diemer married Mr Meckert; they ran the mill together under the name Moulin Meckert-Diemer. The mill very rapidly began producing organic products with the development of spelt wheat, a forgotten cereal widely acclaimed in the works of Hildegarde Von Bingen, a XIIth century German nun. The brand ?Moulin des Moines? is now a major supplier of organic products in France, marketing a wide range of organic specialities particularly in specialist shops: flour, cereals, pasta, sweet and savoury biscuits, chocolates, drinks.
