Ourscamp

Ourscamp - Abbaye Ourscamp - Abbaye Founded in 1129 by Simon de Vermandois, Bishop of Noyon, the Abbey of Ourscamp developed rapidly. In the 13th century, it was made up of a group of imposing and large buildings. But its position on the borders of the Ile de France and Picardy, in a region rich in history, made it the victim of wars and the troubles which so often ravaged the district from the 14th to the 16th century. At the end of the 17th century, the buildings had been seriously damaged which necessitated the reconstruction of most of them. The most damaged where demolished, keeping only from the original buildings the hospital, the abbey church and a few annexes. After the industrial revolution, the 1914-18 war seriously damaged what was left of the monastery. Since 1941, the Servants of Jesus and Mary, a recent religious community, have tried to revive the site.
