Fontmorigny

Fontmorigny - Abbaye Located near the Loire River, in a green valley, close to Nevers and La Charité sur Loire, the Cistercian abbey of ?Notre Dame de Fontmorigny? (Bourges diocese) was founded in 1149 under the Saint Bernard's authority. This abbey is daughter of Clairvaux.From the Middle Ages on, the monks of abbey took best advantage of the local natural soil resources, and Fontmorigny, thanks notably to the metallurgy activities, enjoyed prosperity until the end of the 19th century. In this site flooded in serenity, one can admire the Abbey Church (XII/ XVIII),the ruins of the Cloister (XVIII), the Refectory of the lay brothers (XII), a part of the Hostelry (XVI/XVIII), the fishpond and the abbot's garden. Today the abbey is still on restoration and organizes exhibitions and a prestigious annual music festival.
