Esrum Abbey
Cistercian abbey founded in 1151. The Clairvaux line. Culture option, permanent exhibition on the Cistercian order. Presents exhibitions, concerts, theatre etc. The museum shop with medieval specialties, books and toys. Restaurant in the fine vaulted abbey cellar. Café in the abbey courtyard in the summertime.
A touch of Paradise…
Still today a part of the earlier so mighty Esrum Abbey remains, preserved in beautiful natural surroundings north of Esrum Lake. A visit to Esrum Abbey and Mill Farm is a journey of discovery into the cultural, natural and religious universe. A unique possibility for peace and absorption, but also for exciting experiences, exhibitions and a varied cultural programme.
Abbey garden: Experience more than 100 different medicinal plants from the middle ages. Display of medicinal herbs.
Marking of the foundation:
A part of the abbeys foundation is marked on the grounds. There is a short path to the holy spring with its source in Grib Forest.
Esrum Mill Farm, dam an Mill:
In same area: Original water mill built by Christian IV in 1605, after the reformation. Today a centre for classes in biology and history. Café and picnic area. Alive animals (goats, rabbits, horses, chicken …).
Walk:
Take a walk in the area. Choose the short walk in the vicinity, the medium long walk, which leads you through the forest, or take a longer walk around Esrum Lake.
