Mosteiro de S. Cristóvão de Lafões – Rural Tourism
The buildings of the former Monastery of S. Cristóvão de Lafões date from the end of the 17th century, but its foundation goes back to the XII century. It was carefully renovated, the monastic character of spaces and ambiance was preserved and modern comfort installed. The Monastery offers, besides the area of the owners, the following facilities: T1 ( 1 double room, 1 bathroom and living room with sofa-bed and kitchenette ); a T2 (2 double rooms, 2 bathrooms, living and dining room with open fireplace, kitchen and a small living room with sofa-bed ) connected by a pateo to the lawn and swimming pool area; 5 double rooms with en suite bathroom ( 2 of them are located on the main building). A breakfast and living rooms, a room for games and a small bar are also at the disposition of the guests.
The Monastery is surrounded by a wood, a mountain river marking its limits. In the picturesque stream there is a natural swimming pool with small waterfalls, swimming and diving is possible. There are many opportunities for hiking, either in the neighbourhood or in the mountains surrounding the place. Monuments to visit include a pre historic site (Carvalhais-6 km), medieval buildings ( Viseu -30 km and Vouzela-15 km ) and baroque churches, all easy to reach by car. There is a golf course at a distance of 18 km and the Spa of S. Pedro do Sul (10 km). The rich regional gastronomy is a further incentive for visitors.
